Dp, Gt Teams to Race this week Pontiac Daytona Prototype (DP) and GT teams will have their first natural road course race of the season to be held at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) on April 28 and 29. Crown Royal Special Reserve will present the fourth round of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series which will separate GT and DP races.
Ten Pontiac powered race will participate in races of two hours and thirty minutes. Seven of them are Daytona Prototypes (DP) and three of which are cars WG. The compete separately: GT on Saturday and Sunday RFP. The VIR road course is composed of 17-turns and short 27.3 miles long.
Jon Fogarty and Alex Gurney, the team members from Texas have their own list by going with three starting positions at the forefront of the season. They would like to add another victory to his record on the season. These bags first place in Mexico City as their first victory.
Fogarty said the speed of the car was very well so far this season. They were able to get that extra bit of it in qualifying to start on the front line of the first three races. The rider also commented VIR was not good for them last year. They were racing a borrowed car. They got a turn at the beginning and then I have a penalty. He said that the track is one of his favorites, he has a nice combination of corners and some really nice stuff fast. He anticipates a return to a natural route.
Tracy Krohn was eager to get his No. 76 Krohn Racing Pontiac Riley back to VIR. Texan teammates Max Papis and Colin Braun are currently fourth in points DP.
Krohn think VIR is a great track. He always looks forward to going there and it will be nice to go to a natural road course after two modified ovals. Broadband facilitates are good barometers for how the car setup.
Noted sports car racing Justin Bell will join the DP as full-time driver Roger Schramm partnership in the No. 12 RVO Motorsports Pontiac Riley.
Bell ran with Roger and Bill Lester at Daytona. They came back and I wanted to do the rest of the year from VIR. It will be finished the season with the team. He said he is very happy because he has been a strange last three years, since Trans Am disappeared. He said he missed the boat Grand-Am, he sailed with me, and it is nice to be back with a full-time program. Around the intricacies of VIR, Kelly Collins and Paul Edwards will be looking to maximize the management of their Banner Racing Pontiac GXP.R.
Collins said the Banner Racing team and engineers have improved the set up at each race with respect to the corners. They can not hang in a straight line. So behind the wheel, they do the best possible. The runway at high speed turns will depend on the ability of cars, the long straight is not at this time.
Expecting a strong fight in the race for GT VIR is Leighton Reese in the GXP.R. No. 06 Pontiac He said VIR has been a lot of laps. He is comparing it to Mexico a few. The car runs like big, broad, fast, but they tend to lose ground in the straights. According to him, the cars handle fantastic and they are a pleasure to drive. There are 12 Porsche fast there and the Mazda has come a long way and now they have the support of the effort and they go quickly. The competition in GT class is real strong right now. Their team wants to be a part of the fight at the front.
Jon Mirach, No. 30 GXP.R Racers Edge team owner, had the opportunity to test since Homestead and has sports car hot shoe James Gue behind the wheel for VIR. Gue is the Canadian partner Mark Pavan at VIR.
