Bits 3 essential tips for exercising your Cavies As with most animals, Guinea pigs should be kept healthy and in shape. By far the best way to do is just let them loose to run freely in a space big enough for them to have fun. The space can be indoors or outdoors, but in both cases, it is very important to take certain precautions to keep pets safe:
1. Make sure they are well contained
Notwithstanding the fact that they are larger than other rodents, Guinea pigs have a very thin body. When you combine that trend with their adventurous, you'll see that if you do not watch them, they will soon squeeze their way into a small space, and they are very reluctant to leave!
To avoid this, you should fence in a certain way. Ideally, it is preferable to use a special race, which is like a big cage for them to run in, but if you do not then it is quite possible to make a space close by using boxes, chairs, and other household goods.
2. Protect their feet Soft
Even if we do not always notice, the carpets in our homes can be potentially quite dangerous for Guinea pigs. Things like loose stones, that we hardly notice, can be very painful when you walk over with their soft paws, and can also be a risk of choking if they pick them up and eating.
Whenever possible, it is best to exercise your Guinea pigs on a soft surface like carpet or grass. It is much easier on their soft feet, and ensures that they can run much longer. If you can not find a soft surface for use, you can create one very easily, simply by placing a cloth or newspaper on a surface regardless they are running on.
3. Be aware of potential dangers
Ask most pet lovers, and they are sure to remember a time when one of their pet bit through a wire. Not only is it embarrassing for you, it could also be potentially dangerous for your pet. Clear your Guinea pig "zone of operation of all cables and son before letting them out.
Another thing to watch is that if you have other animals, they are kept out of the way, if they decide that your friend would make a sweet treat!
