Why do people wear high socks when riding a bicycle? I understand why people roll up their pant legs, but I do not understand the knee highs. So I talk a lot of canvas shoes when you travel, is there a reason or is it just something vintage?
I've never seen either. You must ride with a strange crowd.
to protect their legs
canvas shoes can get a good grip so your feet do not slip pedals. and socks could be a thing protection. If you wreck you have something on your legs in addition to those cycling shorts * Chills *
Socks to keep the calf muscles warm and protected.
canvas shoes? Never heard of them.
socks and canvas shoes high, very odd.
socks look silly on a bike and I have never seen or canvas shoes.
Do they wear them?
They are not and they do not wear pants either. We do not wear canvas shoes.
I do not know all the cyclists who ride socks. Socks for cycling are usually at the ankle to help keep cool in hot weather. When we need to keep warm, we wear tights or leg warmers.
They are still a small minority, but I saw the guys in bike shorts socks (soccer socks for the most part) more and more in London. Never stopped any of them to ask why they whistle. Perhaps partly for comfort in colder weather, but I've seen in the summer too.
I do not see why not, anyway. As long as people watch the color coordination Knee socks may look smart with shorts.
Never noticed canvas shoes.
His old school way of doing things. When its colder than you are wearing pants with legs tucked up to keep them out of the chain or you can wear socks and tucking pant legs into them. Another way to ride in cold weather is pants or "four plus" (kind of pants, as it google.) Can High Socks to keep your legs warm.
Never heard of riding in the canvas shoes well, sounds dangerous.
I have never seen or heard of a cyclist wearing knee socks and canvas shoes in the United States. You did not say what your country of origin, but they seem to ride like that of Great Britain. You would never come true all cyclists in the tour the United States, as if they are only in the circus.
I have not seen someone dress this way since the 1970s. Maybe an amateur club of vintage? For about a dollar, you can get a Velcro strap to hold your pant leg chain. A rubber band works well.
