Fixed Bike

Posted on May 22, 2010.
Fixed BikeIs this a track bike / fixed gear bike can be used in a long distance race?

Im planning for a bike in the city and city district of the province (about 300 km long). Im not yet decided if I'm going to get a road bike (expensive) or a fixed bike (cheaper) ..

Fixies are not suitable for long distances at all. If you do not want a bicycle speed MULTI At least use a single speed - one that freewheels. For the distance, I recommend multi-speed bike well.

human grammar, grammar (your title).
Not a track bike! It has a fixed speed (hence the name) which means that if you stop pedaling (you can not), your feet are always moving and you need to know how to use the brake. Get a used bike ...

Unless you live in a place that is flat as a pancake, you'll really need a bike with gears so many ride in the hills practice. If you need to keep the cost down, the hard tail mountain bike, especially if you can find one without front suspension. It should be easy to pick the one that is used. After you wear on your tires, replace them with cloths and you'l get better performance in the city and on the road.

A hybrid is an alternative, if you can find one that suits you. A true road bike will work, but as you noticed, they can be expensive. They are also a bit awkward for the kind of conduct you have described.

Well, it depends on your strength and endurance. as i ride every day so far and have done for centuries on them. but I've been the same bike every day for 6 years now. if you're just picking up, I would get a good bike suited for sure.

I rode with someone who has made the Boston-Montreal-Boston on fixie HER! She also walks with the main field of the race club, then yes, it is very possible.

Yes, a track / fixed gear bike can be fitted to long distance if you have had much experience with fixed gear bikes and are a very strong runner. I regularly cycling fixed gear up to 100 km laps variable terrain including hills and it is great exercise. Not a good idea for a beginner. Do not have a track bike for your stated objective. A track bike has no brakes and he behaved very agitated. If you were to have a fixed gear that I recommend that a bike frame with road geometry and regular road bike brakes. In addition, you can buy one that has a flop "flip" rear hub. This allows you to bike or even a fixed gear or turning the wheel back in a singlespeed with a freewheel (in other words, the bike has single speed, but his feet did not always keep pedaling when the wheels are in motion).

However, after reading your original question again, I think you'd better buy a bike with regular scheduled shift gears and brakes freewheel. 300 km long walk on a fixie.

If you have never driven one I say absolutely not. A fast can be.

obtain a fixed speed. they are much simpler and you get a much better workout on a. on a road bike you're dealing with the derailleur (which is a huge pain), brakes and brake cables getting in the way, is just much easier and cheaper to get a bike fixed gear
