Kaftan

KaftanHow can I sew long sleeves on a cotton kaftan dress with short sleeves?

I have a cotton dress with short sleeves that I would make kaftan with long sleeves, but I have little experience sewing. Please provide detailed answers!

Buy fabric for the sleeves of your new. Just to be sure and get 3 yards. Fold once so it is a double layer.

Pick out the old sewing on the sleeves. Pay attention to how it is attached. Is this the opening match exactly, or the sleeve has raised slightly to meet the armholes?

Lie on your equipment and identify folded. With a measuring instrument, draw out the long sleeves that extends from the bottom of the sleeve short. Cut two layers at once.

Fasten your sleeves news in the same manner as the ancients were attached. The stitching along the shaft should be a direct extension of the side seam on the dress. The top center of the sleeve should be the top center of the shoulder on the dress.

Hem cuff and you're done!

First, fold the sleeves in half lengthwise. What is the shape of the sleeve? It is basically rectangular, the width of one of the underarm pinch down? Or is it tapered like a truncated triangle? I'll assume that it is rectangular.

Then look at the hem on his sleeve if it is narrow, you will not be able to do much .... if it is several inches wide, if you ripped the hem and flat, would there be enough tissue to make a long sleeve? If so,
remove the bottom, press the fabric in the seam flat, then sew an extra tissue that can be activated either inside or outside to make a hem. This is called a hem "face", and can be decorative, especially in tissue contrast trim. The easiest thing to do would be to buy a package of single fold bias tape "or ribbon no more rigid than the fabric of the caftan, and use it for the hem facing, but you can also reduce your own out to match or contrast fabric.

If there is not enough tissue so close to reach your wrist, look at the shape of the handle. If it is rectangular, you can simply add another rectangle of cloth on the end of the wrist, after removing the original hem, and hem the new rectangle.

Say you need 10 "of the new length of the sleeve. Measure the distance around the sleeve, the axillary vein about the width of the sleeve and back to the axillary vein. Let's say 20." We'll add 1.5 "to the length measurement for us to give some margin" couture "(fabric embroidery on the sleeve in force) and fabric for the hem, say 3. Thus, one dimension of the rectangle we need is 10 1.5 3 '= 14.5. The other dimension that we need is 20 "plus a little fabric to sew the armpits. Who will be 1.5" or 21.5 "- if the measure fabric we need is 14 .5 "x 21.5", and because we have two handles, you'll need two 14.5 x 21.5 "rectangle. Most of the fabrics is now 42" to 45 "wide, and if the fabric you choose for this project is 42 inches wide, you will need 29 "of fabric. If the fabric you choose is 44 "wide or more, you'll need 14.5 inches of fabric.

The fabric is sold in 1 / 8 of the court, and it is generally reduced to one, so you can buy half yard of fabric if it is larger than 44 "and one yard of fabric if it is closer that 44 "

Wash and dry the fabric before you start, the same way you wash and dry the kaftan (in fact, wash and clean that however, if you have not done so already). Keep that.
