Kapparot

Posted on June 18, 2010.
KapparotJewish: What is your opinion on Kapparot "?

Personally, I do - but with money, not a chicken. The money is given to charity.

If you do not know what "Kapparot" is, please do not answer the question.

Kapparot, no. It is barbaric.
Tashlich, yes. A trout stream runs right behind my house, and I Tashlich a private ritual for myself afternoon observing Rosh Hashanah. Balling up bundles of bread, I threw them as hard as I can in the gutter, give me a good shake, and "Cast Away 'as far as I can I want to change behavior.

My food drive synagogue is a reasonable substitute for Kapparot. Each of us bring in the equivalent non-perishable food that we ate when we were not fasting, and it goes all the local food bank.

Response: While I'm on a very limited income, money is set aside for kapparot / Tzedakah, particularly for holidays. Someone is always worse.

Tashlich - I could not go to the lake nearby but we look forward to next year.

Kapparot ... I do not actually doing ... But I think Tashlich is correct. Now, I'm pretty conservative, so if I had to explain more about the rocking of the Rooster / hen on the head, then they feed the poor with her ... I think it's good, but these days we do not take the chicken, the butcher, and then feed the poor with her, we have food and the offices of the Ark for that, so I do not do not and frankly I do not see chickens flying here, never ... perhaps because we can not have chickens living in the city? Who knows.
