Cycling guide winter clothes? Hi, Im trying to get clothes for winter to come (NYC & does not come out when the temperature is freezing ".)
I have a question about the layer torso. I know that many cyclists go with an approach to 3 layers, and I've got the base layer 1 st down like a shirt with long sleeves.
The second layer is the most important proposition i, a sweatshirt or wool? I tried to find one of those in vain, if someone can recommend one, it would be great.
If you have any advice for other clothing or equipment I should get please let me know.
I heard lots of guys using their bike shoes summer and just wear two pairs of stockings, nylon and wool. Do you give sufficient protection? Most people say that shoe covers are not that good except for training.
Thank you in advance for any help / advice!
When it's that cold, I wouldnt recommend using a jersey as a base layer. You should get some gear compression winter trousers and long sleeved shirt at least ... something along the lines of UA Cold Gear Hincapie Sportswear or WickWool Baselayer. For your second coat, I wear something like boats Storm Bib Tight and Rapha Winter Jersey. So, for your outerwear to something like Sugoi Majik or, if you can afford it, the Supersweet Castelli Insolito radiation.
As for the shoes ... I am lucky in that my feet very rarely cold, but I always found is to be more than sufficient. If you look around, most companies make a sock that is obtained from the wool of high technology or other similar products for winter socks. I recommend the bombing of the room for a few pairs of people over double the regular riding socks ...
It appears that you have the right idea. Using layers, and perhaps all those close to warm up, but the body heat gives you warm, and you want to have on shorts and a Jersy if not cold. I find it a ski mask helps a lot in cold weather. I can wear shorts and one day at the Jersy, and cold does'nt burn my legs, but cold weather bothers my face with the speed. Of course, the glasses fog ski mask and goggles, but I think anyway. Nashbar.com has all sorts of deals on clothes bike if you want to check some out there
Most shops and retailers are not all their clothes and accessories for winter yet, still a bit early but I would say to look here for the base and top middle: http://www.performancebike. com / bikes / Sub ... Its all just to find whats best for you.
Dress up warm cold ...!
I always wear the same shorts I wear in the summer. When it's cold, I put a pair of unpadded tights over them. I have two pairs, heavier than the other. I can get in the 30s this way.
In addition, I begin with a long sleeved shirt. Besides this is a sweatshirt tight enough. This is well down in the 40s. When he descends into the 30s, I add a fleece top that I bought from LL Bean.
When it's cold, I have a helmet liner "shell" is fleece. Because I do not have much hair left to keep the head warm. ;)
I use the same summer and winter shoes. In winter, I use fairly heavy wool socks. When it's really cold, I boot covers that reduce the flow of air into the shoe. Friends stick their socks in a plastic grocery bag, then put on their shoes cyclists. After attaching the shoe, they cut off the visible parts of the bag. Cheap enough to try!
When it's cold, use gloves fingers.
